Hello Readers! Welcome to my Edmonton urbanism themed blogs. I'm a lifelong Edmontonian. I've lived in the neighbourhoods of Belmont, Canora, McCauley, and Strathcona, studied at the University of Alberta, and worked on sites all over the city as a lawn maintenance worker. I also know the city well as a pedestrian, cyclist, transit user, and someone who enjoys the ravines and natural areas. I got interested in urbanism and municipal issues around the time of the 2021 election. I've read Jane Jacobs and Strong Towns, and watched the public hearings on the zoning bylaw renewal and district planning, and followed the conversation on river valley modernization. I write these posts mostly as a part of my own learning process, as a way of orienting myself to my local context and creating a public record of what I've learned and thought about. I'm happy to be corrected in comments on any matters of fact, to receive divergent perspectives, or to be advised of learning resources or opportunities relevant to the topics explored. I hope you'll join me in exploring, perhaps even generating insights about this place, and look forward to learning conversations.
